Steven J. McMichael, OFM Conv., STD, Mary Magdalene in Medieval Franciscan Spirituality: Beloved Disciple and Apostle of the Apostles (St. Bonaventure 2022).
This book presents the legacy of Mary Magdalene from the perspective of Franciscan spirituality, theology, and art. It shows how she was shown as a model of the spiritual journey in medieval Franciscan theology, the Vita Christi tradition, and art. It also shows how the medieval Franciscan tradition associated Mary Magdalene with the Virgin Mary, presenting them as complementary roles during the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ.
